Erica’s journey through motherhood and breastfeeding has given her firsthand experience with just how different — and deeply personal — every postpartum journey can be. With her first son, she navigated the emotional challenges of a brief NICU stay while also spending his first year largely solo parenting during her husband’s deployment to Afghanistan. Along the way, she learned that feeding goals sometimes need to shift with circumstances, and she chose combo feeding as the approach that best supported both her baby and herself during a season with very little support. With her second son, the experience was entirely different. This time, Erica faced severe oversupply, frequent mastitis, recurrent clogged ducts, and the exhausting reality of feeling constantly tethered to a pump. She also experienced postpartum depression and anxiety, adding another layer to an already demanding season of motherhood. Experiencing both ends of the spectrum gave Erica a unique perspective on the physical and emotional realities many mothers face. More importantly, it deepened her passion for maternal health and her commitment to creating supportive, judgment-free spaces where families feel informed, empowered, and cared for.
I was the mom who didn't make 'enough' milk — and the mom with 'too much' milk.
